www.desiredgolf.co.uk will shortly be taking delivery of the new 2012 range of Druh Belts & Buckles.

Druh Belts and Buckles is the brainchild of Touring Professional Simon Hurd. The Englishman, known as Hurdy on the European and Asian Tours, was known for the distinctive and colourful pork pie hats he donned on the golf course, but is now better recognised for his distinguished belt range.

“Even as a golf pro, I have always taken an interest in fashion both on and off the golf course, so it seemed a natural progression for me to go into the fashion world,” says Hurdy, a smart dresser with well-tailored attire. “In fact I have been dressed by William Hunt of Savile Row, London, in the past and I soon realised that looking smart means playing smart.”

Druh’s designs in classic black and browns and funky pastels and metallics have fast become the professionals’ style secret, with the likes of Lee Westwood, John Daly, Robert Karlsson, Paul McGinley and Thongchai Jaidee joining 100s of European and Asian Tour players, as well as LPGA and LET players, in choosing Druh belts.

“Golf gear has always been perceived as rather staid and dull so I wanted to have a bit of fun designing belts and buckles that were a little bit funky, yet stylish, and certainly they have been an instant hit with pro golfers all over the world. And now it is the chance for all those amateurs out there to smarten up their golf look with one of my Druh belts!”

Each belt is handmade using the finest in sustainable and natural materials. Leather and snakeskin straps are matched to Druh’s unique range of interchangeable buckles, which gives Druh customers the opportunity to create their own customised belt to look smart on or off the golf course.

To purchase your new Druh Belt please make your way to the Druh belt section of the www.desiredgolf.co.uk website.

Motocaddy Takes Top Awards in Leading Golf Magazines

2012 at 13.58 pm posted by Aaron Pheasant

Motocaddy, the top-selling brand in the powered trolley market, has reinforced the reputation of its products further after taking top spot in both the Golf Monthly ‘Ultimate Electric Trolley Test’ and the Today’s Golfer ‘Gear Awards’ of 2011.

The best-selling trolley of last year, the Motocaddy S1 Digital, received top marks in Golf Monthly’s comprehensive test that involved eight of the biggest trolley brands on the market. Assessed by the magazine’s equipment specialists, the trolley was described as “the best all-round performer” thanks to its simple functionality, stylish appearance and value for money offered.

The simple-to-use S1 Digital, which retails from £299.99, accounted for a 40% share of the UK powered trolley market during 2011 and also impressed Golf Monthly’s associate editor Jeremy Ellwood.

“I really liked the Motocaddy S1 Digital – it has very simple, easy-to-use controls and looks stylish,” he said. “You can see why Motocaddy has made big strides in only a small number of years in the golf industry.”

Meanwhile, Motocaddy’s S3 Digital model – soon to be upgraded with the introduction of the S3 PRO – was voted as the ‘Best electric trolley of the year’ by readers in Today’s Golfer’s prestigious Gear Awards. The UK’s best-selling golf magazine was full of praise for a model that also got a five-star rating in the publication’s November trolley test, picking out its “array of features and impressive styling” as key factors for its success.

In announcing the award, the magazine stated: “We get many emails through the year from golfers complaining that their electric trolley has broken down. But we’ve never received one from someone citing a broken Motocaddy, and that illustrates perfectly how good their products are.”

While the S1 Digital finished second in the same category, there were also two other significant product successes for the brand that recently announced a 66% rise in sales value for the last year. Motocaddy also took top spot in the ‘Best push/pull trolley’ category with its popular S1 Lite model and ‘Best trolley bag’ with the company’s most successful cart bag to date, the Pro-Series.

“The recent awards in Golf Monthly and Today’s Golfer highlight just how easy-to-use and reliable our trolleys are,” said Motocaddy Chairman David Wells. “We highly value the feedback we receive from our customers and we look forward to the launch of our next generation range in March.”

Hotly anticipated Callaway Driver for February 2012…and it is already making global headlines!

2012 at 09.32 am posted by Aaron Pheasant

Excitement is building as Callaway has lifted the lid on its first ever fully adjustable driver, the RAZR Fit.

Available from 15th February 2012 – it is already making headlines thanks to Callaway Staff Professional and leader of the European Tour’s driving distance stats, Spaniard Alvaro Quiros.

Following hot on the heels of his victory in the Dubai World Championships, where his driving AVERAGE was 311 yards, big-hitting Alvaro has been singing the praises of his new RAZR Fit adjustable Driver.

“For my entire career the driver has been the most important club in my bag. Now I’ve got the RAZR Fit, I know I have a driver that I can trust. I am hitting this driver straighter and longer than my last one for sure. I hit the RAZR Fit once and I knew straight away it was going in the bag,” said Quiros.

His latest win at the European Tour’s season finale catapults him to No. 21 in the Official World Golf Rankings and secures his place at the 2012 US Masters in April.

The RAZR Fit optimises accuracy and trajectory from the tee with its adjustment options of: three clubface settings – open, square and closed – and two moveable weights, which promote either draw or neutral ball flights. Building on 29 years of club making excellence, Callaway’s RAZR Fit Driver represents the company’s most advanced product to date.

A key objective for Quiros has been to improve his consistency and the RAZR Fit continues to utilise proprietary technology found in the RAZR Hawk Driver to minimise weight and maximise forgiveness and club head speed.

He added: “I’ve worked really hard with the Callaway guys to get the club dialled in to my perfect settings and it paid off at the Dubai World Championships. So, a big thank you to everyone at Callaway.”

Other tour professionals already using RAZR Fit include Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els and Fredrik Jacobson.

:: OptiFit Technology: The OptiFit Hosel adjusts the face angle in open, square and closed positions at address to improve accuracy and trajectory.

:: Forged Composite: Revolutionary material in the crown that’s lighter and stronger than titanium and allows engineers to precisely control thickness, resulting in an optimum centre of gravity and high resistance to twisting.

:: Speed Frame Technology: A combination of VFT (Variable Face Thickness) and Hyperbolic Face Technology to create a large sweet spot, high ball speeds and consistent, long distances.

:: Streamlined Surface Technology: 27% more aerodynamically efficient than the RAZR Hawk Driver, creating higher impact speeds and added distance.

Dr Alan Hocknell, senior vice president of research and design at Callaway, explains the key stories of the new RAZR Fit Driver….

Explain the ethos of RAZR Fit?

Our intention is not to just join the adjustability race with RAZR Fit, it is to take pole position. This isn’t just the first adjustable driver from Callaway, we believe this is the best adjustable driver currently on the market in terms of overall performance.

Added to this, RAZR Fit offers simple adjustability…and only in the forms that really matter, i.e. we have included options where the golfer can really see a difference once they have adjusted the club.

Finally, this driver doesn’t compromise on anything - we have kept performance at an optimum, with the added benefit of personal customisation.

RAZR Fit gives golfers the opportunity to understand, through their own experiences, what the driver is doing for their particular swing fault or problematic ball flight.

Is RAZR Fit aimed at a particular standard of player?

It should enable a broad group of players to hit more consistent shots because the settings they are able to use will compensate for the errors they may have in their swing, like slicing, ball flight too low or too high, so the driver can, by design, accommodate a larger number of individuals… including Tour pros!

One design choice we did make with this driver was not to have a high trajectory model that would have extended the reach of this product to the weakest of players.

We felt that if you took the highest lofted version of RAZR Fit and you used the closed face hosel setting with the heaviest screw in the heel, you would create the draw bias and a very similar performance of a high trajectory driver.

Effectively, the settings on the RAZR Fit help us reach a broad number of golfers.

Why wait until now to launch your first adjustable driver?

It wasn’t really for reasons of not being able to produce one. With an R&D department the size of Callaway’s, we are capable of designing the most complicated, adjustable driver ever seen, but we stayed away from that raw pursuit of features and made some very good, intelligent decisions about the type of adjustability required by golfers.

What we did believe was that the way adjustability had been put forward by our competitors there were some things being done to weight inside the head which we thought compromised the performance of their drivers in terms of the ball going far and straight, particularly when you didn’t hit the centre of the face.

We said we wouldn’t produce an adjustable driver until we could create a club that wasn’t compromised by the weight of those adjustable elements and that is really what the new RAZR Fit Driver represents.

With a sleek and striking look, CG Black irons are engineered for maximum distance and forgiveness. Their multi-material construction incorporates a thin, high-strength Ti face for increased ball speed and maximum distance, while a larger face area and full cavity back maximize forgiveness on off-centre hits. Deep Undercut Technology positions the centre of gravity lower and deeper in the clubhead to optimize launch angle, spin and playability. Plus, the combination of a Lamkin Lite grip and a Miyazaki C. Kua 59 graphite shaft reduces the overall weight of the CG Black irons and helps increase swing speed for more distance while maintaining incredible accuracy. CG Black irons also feature Tour Zip Grooves™ and Laser Milled™ technology to maximize spin in accordance with USGA regulations.

PRODUCT FEATURES :

 ULTRALITE TECHNOLOGY

With the proven lightweight performance found in premium Miyazaki graphite shafts and lightweight grips from Golf Pride and Lamkin, players can expect increases in swing speed with the same swing effort.

 LOWER, DEEPER CENTER OF GRAVITY

The centre of gravity has been moved lower and deeper toward the back of the club head for higher launch angle with optimal spin and playability. Irons and wedges have Deep Undercut Technology. These technologies help to maximize distance in all playing conditions.

 TI CLUB FACE

CG Black irons and wedges have a high-strength Ti club face that's larger and thinner for a higher C.O.R. and amazing distance.

Robert Rock holds off Tiger Woods to win in Abu Dhabi

2012 at 09.33 am posted by Aaron Pheasant

England's Robert Rock, wearing J Lindeberg clothing and accessories held off the challenge of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy to claim the biggest win of his career at the Abu Dhabi Championship.

Joint overnight leader with Woods Rock birdied three of his first six holes to set up a one-shot victory on 13 under.

McIlroy (69) birdied the last to finish second, while Woods struggled to find fairways or greens in his level-par 72.

Graeme McDowell (68) aced the 12th and birdied the last two holes to tie for third with Woods and Thomas Bjorn (68).

Former world number one Woods started well with a 50-foot birdie putt on the second and another birdie on the third, but gave both those shots back with bogeys on the fourth and fifth.

I was right there with a chance to win, but just didn't get the job done

Tiger Woods

Rock, who also birdied the second and third, knocked in another on the sixth to open a three-shot lead he could scarcely believe.

"I was just happy to be playing with Tiger," admitted the 34-year-old Staffordshire pro, who can now bank a cheque for £291,646 after closing with a two-under-par 70. "That is a special honour in itself.

"Early on I was very nervous but I hit some good shots and then I began to think, 'why not?'"

However, any thoughts of a straightforward victory were quickly snuffed out by a bogey on the eighth and, when Woods birdied nine, the lead was back to one.

But that was as close as the American, who hit only five greens in regulation, would get.

"I was right there with a chance to win, but just didn't get the job done," said 36-year-old Woods.

"I got off to a beautiful start but misjudged the wind on the next two holes and felt I was just a touch off."

World number three McIlroy exerted a little late pressure with a birdie on the par-five last to set the clubhouse lead on 12 under.

That meant Rock, who had won only once previously on Tour in 228 attempts, at last year's Italian Open, had a two-shot cushion on the 18th tee - a cushion that would prove useful.

Motocaddy increases lithium warranty to five-years

2012 at 07.27 am posted by Aaron Pheasant

Motocaddy, the top-selling brand in the UK’s powered trolley market, has extended the warranty on its reliable, super-lightweight Lithium batteries from two to five years with the introduction of a five-year limited warranty on any batteries sold from the 1st January 2012.

The Motocaddy Lithium battery, which has a lifetime five times that of a lead acid equivalent, is increasingly becoming the battery of choice for regular golfers – as shown by a 122% increase in sales over the last year.

Motocaddy was among the first powered trolley brands to offer Lithium batteries across its popular range in 2008.

“The introduction of a five-year warranty for the Lithium battery shows just how reliable a product it has become,” said Chairman David Wells. “And we have always been confident of its popularity as research has shown that golfers want the lightest, most efficient batteries to power their trolleys. The Motocaddy Lithium fits the bill perfectly,” he added.

Compatible with all Motocaddy electric trolley models, the Lithium battery recharges twice as quickly as a lead acid battery and, at only 2.5 kg, weighs less than a quarter of its bulk. The battery, with charger, has a RRP of £299.99. Full terms and conditions are available at www.motocaddy.com/warranty.

Lee Westwood leads after shooting career best 60 in Thailand

2011 at 10.49 am posted by Aaron Pheasant

Lee Westwood shot a 12-under-par 60 - the best round of his career - to establish a five-shot lead on day one of the Thailand Golf Championship.

The Englishman carded 10 birdies and an eagle at the Amata Spring Country Club.

"I made a dream start and you start thinking about 59, I guess," said Westwood, the world number three.

Westwood set the tone for his round with birdies at one, three, four and five and an eagle at the par-five second.

"I guess 59 is one of those numbers where if it is meant to be, it is meant to be. I messed it up with a few pars!"

Lowest ever competitive rounds

58 Shigeki Maruyama (2000), Jason Bohn (2001), Ryo Ishikawa (2010)

59 Al Geiberger (1977), Chip Beck (1991), David Duval (1999), Paul Goydos (2010), Stuart Appleby (2010)

American John Daly is Westwood's closest challenger after the two-time major winner carded a 65.

He picked up another shot at the seventh to reach the turn in 29 and a further five birdies coming home maintained his momentum.

Westwood's round was even more remarkable given the tricky wind in Chonburi.

"It's not really a 60 course," he added. "It was a bit breezy out there.

"[Caddie] Billy [Foster] said he thought he had seen the best round of golf ever when I shot 62 at the Nedbank a few weeks ago but he said that was better today, so I am making progress!"
